British Prime Minister, David Cameron has described Nigeria as a “fantastically corrupt” country. Caught on camera yesterday making a remark ahead of the international anti-corruption summit scheduled for tomorrow in London, Cameron had labeled Nigeria and Afghanistan as two of the most corrupt countries of the world.
Cameron was speaking at Buckingham Palace at an event to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday. Obviously informing the queen about the conference, he described Nigeria and Afghanistan as “fantastically corrupt” nations. His words: “Actually we have got some leaders of some fantastically corrupt countries coming to Britain… “Nigeria and Afghanistan –possibly two of the most corrupt countries in the world.” But in a swift reaction, Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, intervened, saying (of President Muhammadu Buhari): “But this particular president is not corrupt…

Chibok abduction: The Nigerian town that lost its girls

On the night that Jumai was kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, she called her dad.
She was in the back of a truck, packed in with her schoolmates as men with guns tried to take them away. Her father, Daniel, told her to jump out of the van - but then the line crackled and the signal dropped.
He ran out of the house to try to find phone signal. When he called back, a man answered: "Stop calling, your daughter has been taken away". Daniel realised then that her fate was "in the hands of God". The next day he tried to call again but the line was dead.

According to the Nigerian Air Force on Friday night said they may have identified the possible locations of the abducted Chibok school girls.
The Director of Public Relations of the Air Force, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, told Channels Television that the force has therefore abstained from attacking the identified areas to avoid hitting the girls.

History Is Made In USA As Black Female Judge Swears In Her Twin Sister As A Judge (Photos).

These ladies have made history in the United Kingdom as the first set of twins to serve together as judges in Birmingham. Not only are their professional lives identical, but their personal ones as well. The sisters - Shanta Owens and Shera Grant (born four minutes apart) both have six-year-old daughters who are four months apart, and their three-years-old sons were born four months apart as well. Both ladies got married in 2003, and although their husbands aren’t twins, they’ve been best friends since kindergarten.




In 2008, sister Shanta Owens became a district court judge, where she will remain on the bench until 2020. After serving for eight years she had the opportunity to swear in her “younger” Shera Grant in January, who is currently filling in the seat of a former judge. This decision was approved by a governor who appointed Grant by way of hearing that Owens had a twin with the same qualifications:

Former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, detained by EFCC after 8hours of questioning

Former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh was yesterday detained by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after subjecting him to about eight-hours of questioning. Badeh is being investigated in connection with the ongoing $2.1 billion arms deal scandal. Badeh arrived the commission's headquarters in Abuja at about 9am and did not leave the premises even after the close of work.

A source at EFCC who spoke on condition of anonymity said

“He is having audience with one of the panels we raised to interact with those military chiefs invited. We confronted Badeh with some documents, including letters to the ex-NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), demanding the procurement of some military equipment. We are not likely to release him on bail now because his interrogation may take a while. You know, he was central to the control of the Armed Forces. Before being the CDS, he was also a Chief of Air Staff. Some of these equipment were bought under him”.

                    

University don says 62 per cent of Nigerian women unfaithful

 

The Head of Department of Educational Technology at the University of Ilorin, Prof. Mudasiru Yusuf, has urged Nigerians to re-evaluate themselves to be more honourable.

In a lecture organised by the Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA), Yusuf said that 62 per cent of Nigerian women were unfaithful.

In the lecture entitled "Honour in a Nation, Where Honour is a Luxury," Yusuf said that almost all aspects of the nation was unfortunate to be characterised with dishonest individuals.

"The issue of honesty has to do with ethos and integrity; even Allah had honoured man, it is man who therefore has degraded himself and brought himself low," he said.

According to him, God is divine and clean and does not accept any act except clean and honourable actions from his creations.

Yusuf, who criticised people using their position to tarnish the image of the country, however, commended the few who remained resolute in performing the best actions and remained honourable.

Earlier, the President of UNIFEMGA, Prof. Abdulwahab Egbewole, said the policy trust of the programme was to identify with members in realising a family centred mantra as a core value.

He pointed out that honour was a scarce commodity in the country where those perceived as honourable were indeed dishonest.

"As a policy, we do not honour members with political appointment and we only celebrate our members who are appointed to political office after their tenure," he said.

Speaking in the same vein, Malam Yusuf Ali (SAN) said that the programme was about honouring Muslims who had achieved distinction, while recognising excellence and challenging others to offer their best to the society.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme was chaired by the Chief Judge of Kwara, Justice Suleiman Kawu.

A total of 13 members were honoured, included Justice Munta Abimbola, Chief Judge of Oyo State, Alhaji Taofik Oladipupo, Permanent Secretary in Oyo State Ministry of Lands and Housing, the Director of Administration at INEC, Dr Muslim Omoleke, and others.

Dangote reduce cement price from #1800 to #1300

One of the leading cement producing companies in Nigeria, Dangote cement  has reportedly reduced its price of cement from N1800 to N1300 so as to ensure the product is more affordable to its user.

This announcement was made just few days after the recent introduction of new production lines in Okpella Edo State and Itori in Ogun State worth nine million metric tonnes.

During the national conference of the National Association of Block Moulders in Nigeria (NABMON), Dangote Cement took time to train block moulders on the right mix to get quality blocks.

Speaking in at the event, Regional Sales Director, Dangote Cement, Johnson Olaniyi, said that due to the rising alarm on building collapse in Nigeria, the company would be joining the war against building collapse, and also providing solutions to tackle the menace.

Nigerian passenger accused of smuggling 1.7kg of cocaine in his intestines through Dubai

A 40-year-old Nigerian man has been accused of smuggling nearly 1.7kg of cocaine capsules in his intestines via Dubai in transit. A special device helped capture the man carrying the cocaine in his intestines. (screenshot)

Jail wardens did not bring the suspect from his detention and present him before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter a plea on Sunday, February 7. Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal adjourned the hearing until the defendant is brought from detention on February 21.

Law enforcement officers at Dubai International Airport were said to have discovered that the Nigerian passenger, C.J., had been carrying drugs in his intestines when they had him checked at the special detecting device at the airport’s transit terminal in November.

The passenger was referred to Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department immediately after the scanning device exposed tens of capsules in C.J.’s intestines.

Drugs prosecutors charged the suspect with smuggling 80 capsules that contained a stone-like white substance via Dubai in transit. A policeman claimed to prosecutors that he was tasked with accompanying C.J. to a public hospital to make him emit the drug capsules.

"I escorted the suspect to the hospital where he was provided with a medical substance to help him emit the capsules. He got out 45 capsules over a few hours," testified the policeman.

Dubai Police’s forensic laboratory confirmed that the extracted capsules contained nearly 1.7kg of cocaine.
